SUITLAND: A Caring Community

This project created a service-learning environment where students are exposed to real community issues while providing design and planning services to the community. The experience exposed students to techniques utilized in community design, inventory and analysis. The report includes a synthesis of the community analysis and a collection of design ideas generated with input from community stakeholders gained through three community workshops and through a questionnaire distributed by students. This report outlines a revitalization plan for the Suitland Town Center that is focused on strategies that increase walkability and create a more livable, active community.

The work was prepared under the direction of Professor Margarita Hill in the LARC 471 Community Design Studio Class. For links to the Neighborhood Design Center and other partners in this effort click here.
