This report summarizes a semester long project undertaken by eighteen landscape architecture students from the University of Maryland's Department of Natural Resource Sciences and Landscape Architecture. This work was prepared under the direction of Professor Margarita Hill in a Community Design Studio Class.
The report represents a collection of ideas and recommendations generated by the university students with input from community members through individual interviews and a community workshop. We hope that these ideas act as a catalyst for the continuing discussion of positive environmental change in the City of North Brentwood and serve to aid the City, the M-NCPPC and perhaps other governmental agencies and committees in the area to implement neighborhood improvement |
strategies that reflect a collaborative effort to improve the quality of life for residents.
North Brentwood faces many challenges to revitalize older portions of town, preserve historic and natural resources, while guiding opportunities for growth in the area. This study identifies some strategies for revitalization.
North Brentwood was chosen as the focus for the semester long studio project since it serves as an excellent example of some of the issues and opportunities presents in urban and community design. This project allowed us to mesh goals of community design service with educational goals by exposing students to some of the techniques utilized in design, inventory and analysis used in the context of neighborhood design. |
